Placebo in Clinical Trials

When it comes to some clinical trials that test medication for the use of consumers many use some form of placebo to test whether a patient has a reaction to the drug or if the reaction that occurs is because a person simply thinks that it will. Placebos are frequently found as medication in pill form that is simply composed of sucrose (sugar pill). Placebos are also often used in medical research through a clinical trial in order to gauge how beneficial a certain medication may be in terms of its effects on the general public. Medical research studies often report that placebos work a significant amount of the time, sometimes as well as actual pharmaceutical medication. The only thing that can explain this medical phenomenon is the fact that the mind and body are connected in ways and have effects on each other that we can only guess at. Often doctors will give patients placebos if they suspect that a patient has a problem that can be handled psychologically. Sometimes even terminally ill person that are given placebos see improvement with their conditions just by thinking that a medication is working for them.

Though placebos often cannot take the place of proven and tested medication for many diseases and ailments the placebo effect has been known to happen across the board in the medical field with patients of all types. Many studies have been conducted pertaining to this effect and it has been hard to solve the mystery of why some fake medications can work so well for some in terms of curing or significantly improving their health but not for others. This question may never be answered but one thing that is for sure is that the placebo is here to stay as long as those who are sick simply need a boost in confidence in order to get better.
